Frequently asked questions
Essential information about Matsuzawaya, Kamihitoban, stays, rates and access.
What is Matsuzawaya?
Matsuzawaya is a traditional Showa-era seafront ryokan in Katana, Minamichita, Aichi. Founded in 1918 and carried through five generations, it offers ordinary stays and the Kamihitoban retreat.
Can I see the sunrise from an oceanfront room?
Yes. Matsuzawaya faces due east, so guests in an oceanfront room can watch the sun rise directly over the sea. The first sunrise on New Year’s Day is especially beautiful and powerful. Visibility depends on the season and weather.
What is Himorogi no Yado?
Himorogi means a sacred place prepared to welcome divine presence. Matsuzawaya uses the name Himorogi no Yado to honour the sea, sunrise, prayers and accumulated time held here.
What is Kamihitoban?
Kamihitoban is Matsuzawaya’s intimate two-day, one-night retreat: one sacred night with the gods and goddesses, with reflective guidance, sunrise meditation, meals and time by the sea.
Can I join alone?
Yes. Solo guests are welcome. Kamihitoban is held in a small group of up to five people.
How much does Kamihitoban cost for an international guest?
The international guest rate shown on this English site is ¥80,000 per person, including tax, one night and two meals.
Are meals included in every stay?
No. Both two-meal and accommodation-only plans are available. Menus depend on season and availability.
Is Matsuzawaya a modern hotel?
No. It is a historic Showa-era ryokan. Some facilities may be less convenient than a modern hotel; preserving its atmosphere is part of the experience.
Is parking available?
Yes, for up to two vehicles by advance reservation only. Tell us the number of cars when booking.
How is a reservation confirmed?
Submitting the form sends a request, not an instant confirmation. Your stay is confirmed only after Matsuzawaya replies.
